SUPER-HERO SILVER CLEANER from Miss P’s blog

Miss P’s blog has a good idea for cleaning silver with baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)  You lay your silver pieces in a non-corrosive container (plastic, ceramic, etc., but not metal), cover them with baking soda (think Arm & Hammer), and then you pour boiling water over all and wait.

The baking soda shouldn’t hurt your stones, but the stones might be sensitive to boiling water – I’m thinking that you could make a creamy mix of baking soda and room temperature water, and pour that over silver/stone pieces and have success.  (I have a lot of tarnished pieces – I’ll let you know how that idea goes once I get around to trying it)

  1. You don’t really have to cover the pieces with baking soda. Just mix it with very hot water and don’t forget the aluminum foil. It won’t work without it.
